About
HF saw a need for an simply and easily searchable database that preserves horse's information, that everyone will have access to. This is a sim member-driven database, and the more members who add horses the better it will be. HF's Proboards forum has been in existence since 2003 (the game since 1997!), so our longevity is established and do not plan to go anywhere. Our longevity has made us appreciate access to information of our past, and realize the importance of securing the information of our future. Hopefully we can make this something enjoyable to everyone for years to come.
We simply wanted to provide an outlet for everyone by hosting a pedigree database, and hosting the database on the forum was a suitable solution instead of hiring a developer and maintaining a PHP website one. We do not claim to be an ASPD (All-Sim Pedigree Database) replacement, simply an option for researchers in the absence of the ASPD with no strings attached. Plus, maintenance and backup is Proboards responsibility, so no more crashes or disappearing! The ease of adding horses and participation flexibility is still there, with the additional bonus of the individual horse's history being preserved as each post is made.
Who can add horses? What horses can be added?
Anyone! If you are a simmer and you would like to add a horse, simply copy and paste the form provided in this thread and post it in the horse's respective year of birth.
Any sim horse from any game or All-Sim is welcome here. Even if it has a fully real life pedigree. The goal is to preserve information for the use of all simmers.
Do you need a member account on this forum?
No, you do not! This is rated E for everyone. Proboards will ask for a captcha in using the search if you do not have an account on this forum. You do not have to be a member of the game HF, either.
Can you add someone else's horses?
Sim has been around long enough that there are plenty of historical horses whose information should be preserved, but the owner is no longer with us. In this case, you are more than welcome to post these historical horses. If the member is still active in sim, please ask their permission as a courtesy before adding their horses.
Updating incorrect information.
If you would prefer to have the main original post edited, please contact an HF staff member.
See something incorrect? Need to make a change on the original post? Need to move a post to the correct year of birth? Have suggestions for the SPD?
Please feel free to contact any of the admins here on the HF forum. View the current admins, listed as Administrator in the group/rank column.
What about ownership transfer?
Simply post a reply in the horse's thread! It really is that easy. Using this method also established a researchable ownership history of the horse as well. The flexibility of adding information to the horse's history makes the database quite useful to those looking for more than the basics.
I worry that my horses are posted in a game's forum.
All horses posted in the Pedigree Database are for information and research purposes ONLY. HF has no rights to the actual horses, and will never absorb into HF any of the horses listed in the database.
Why can't I delete my post?
Several years ago, HF disabled the deleting of posts by members other than staff due to a member sabotaging our mandatory registry. This approach has worked well to save members from the heartache of having to re-add their horses again, though it requires an additional step if you DO need something deleted. Simply contact an officer if you need a post deleted. View the current admins, listed as Administrator in the group/rank column.
What about linking?
You are more than welcome to link horses in the pedigrees and foal info (if that is provided). The unfortunate side effect of losing the ASPD PHP site and using Proboards instead is that the autolinking option is no longer available. Using the search option will connect the dots, though.
How do you research horses?
Please keep in mind that the process/view will be different on a mobile device. We have put together a simple tutorial for the basics:

Ugh, there's spam.
I'm not a fan of processed meat either, but if you see any spammy posts PLEASE contact an admin as soon as possible with the link. We don't allow or want spam here and will take care of it. View the current admins, listed as Administrator in the group/rank column.
